Sunshine Skyway Bridge (click on image for larger view)

These photos of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge were taken as we drove over and back across the bridge.  This was no easy shoot for the road was being worked on, and the traffic seemed to always be in the way.  The first two photos show the bridge at a distance so you can get a feel for how large the bridge really is.

North Side of Bridge

As we head south this is the front approach to the bridge.  Besides dealing with the problems of rough roads, traffic, we must also contend with the wind that can blow upwards of 50 miles per hour at the top.

Wide angle view of south side

The photo gives a wide angle view of the bridge's Southside heading into Manatee County.  Off to the right you can see the South Pier that shoots out into the Gulf.

View of the bridge from the Southside Park area.

From this point we are looking North from the Southside Park.  What is most interesting about the rest stop is the real beauty that is around you.  Note the two men fishing.

Skyway Bridge from the North Pier

This photo was taken from the north fishing pier that runs along with the bridge.  The north fishing pier is the remains of the old bridge.

South Side of Bridge

We have broken over the crest of the bridge and are heading down the south side towards Manatee County.  The bridge is the principle connection between Pinellas County, St. Pete., and Manatee County, Bradenton.

At the crest of the bridge

We are at the Bridge's crest, and it's here where the wind is the most fierce.  Note the two large main supports of the bridge that are painted gold.

North side of bridge

Looking down into Pinellas County, St. Petersburg in the distance, the camera shake is really bad, but I did get at least a useable shot.

Approaching the crest

As we head up the bridge you can see the drums alongside the road indicating the repair in process.  The road is very rough, and gave me a fit in trying to keep the camera shake down.
